KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has recovered 480 stolen or missing motorcycles and scooters during the current fiscal year 2024/25 and returned them to their rightful owners.
According to the office, it received over 2,000 complaints of missing two-wheelers between mid-July last year and mid-July 2025. Most of these complaints were related to stolen motorcycles and scooters from various locations across the Kathmandu Valley.
During its search operations, the office found some vehicles bearing original vehicle registration plates while others had fake or altered plates. Most of the recoveries were made in areas like Naikap, Milan Chowk, Sundarijal, Chabahil, Mid-Baneshwor, Maligaun, Kadaghari, Kalimati, Anamnagar, Singha Durbar, Nepaltar, Gongabu, Basundhara and Thali, among others.
The office has also referred 74 individuals involved in vehicle theft to various local police units for further investigation.
The office had recovered 499 stolen motor vehicles in 2022/23 and 417 in 2023/24.
SP Deepak Giri, the spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, urged people to park their vehicles in secure locations and use additional safety measures such as wheel locks, chain locks, handle locks, disc locks and security alarms to prevent theft.
If a vehicle goes missing, the owner can report it by calling the traffic police hotline 103, the Nepal Police hotline 100 or by registering a report at the nearest police station.
