KATHMANDU: Two new electric hatchback cars from China are preparing to enter the Nepali market. MG4 Urban and Arcfox T1 are expected to launch in Nepal in the coming months.
Among them, Arcfox is a completely new brand for Nepal. The brand is owned by China’s BAIC Group. Its compact electric hatchback, the Arcfox T1, is likely to arrive in Nepal through a company under the Laxmi Group. The model is expected to go on sale by mid-June or early July.
MG’s official distributor Paramount Motors is also preparing to introduce the MG4 Urban. The company recently launched the MG S6 electric SUV in Nepal. The MG4 Urban is likely to make its public debut during the upcoming NADA Auto Show.
Both hatchbacks are around 4.3 meters long and will compete in the premium electric hatchback segment. They will directly rival the popular BYD Dolphin in Nepal.
The MG4 Urban comes with a front-wheel-drive setup. This is different from MG’s earlier EV models like the MG4, MG S5, and MG S6, which use rear-wheel drive. The Arcfox T1 also uses a front-wheel-drive motor.
In terms of power, the MG4 Urban is expected to get a 100 kW electric motor. The Arcfox T1 is likely to use a 95 kW motor. Both models are expected to offer driving ranges of more than 300 km on a full charge.
Official details about battery size and variants for Nepal are yet to be confirmed. In China, both models are available with multiple battery options.
The expected price range for both hatchbacks in Nepal is between Rs 3.7 million and Rs 4.5 million.
With growing demand for premium EV hatchbacks, it will be interesting to see how these new models compete against the already successful BYD Dolphin in the Nepali market.
