KATHMANDU: An Avatr 06 electric sedan made by Changan, Huawei and CATL caught fire in Fujian Province, China, on October 5, according to CarNewsChina.

The fire spread quickly and set seven nearby cars on fire, including an Audi, a BMW, a Mazda and an Aion. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The owner said she bought the car on August 28, 2025, and had driven it for about 1,000 km. Before the fire, the Avatr app showed the inside temperature had reached 76°C and smoke started coming from the front passenger seat.

Avatr and its partners have not released an official statement yet.

Some reports suggest the fire might have been caused by sunlight reflecting off interior accessories or a perfume bottle explosion, rather than a battery problem.

This is the first reported fire incident involving the Avatr 06, which uses a CATL-made Shenxing LFP battery with an 800V system. The car was launched in April 2025 and costs between 29,500 and 39,300 USD.

From April to August 2025, Avatr sold over 24,000 units of the 06 model in China.
