KATHMANDU: Leapmotor has introduced its new compact electric hatchback, the B05, in China. The model is known as the Lafa 5 in the domestic market. It is available in five variants, with prices starting at around USD 13,100 and reaching up to USD 17,200.
The B05 is built on the LEAP 3.5 platform. It is 4,430 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, and 1,520 mm tall, with a 2,735 mm wheelbase. The car uses a rear-mounted electric motor.
Buyers can choose between 132 kW and 160 kW outputs. Battery options include 56.2 kWh and 67.1 kWh packs, offering CLTC ranges of 515 km and 605 km.
Higher variants come with advanced safety and technology features. These include a roof-mounted LiDAR unit, a 200 TOPS computing platform, and 27 perception sensors. These additions make the B05 one of the most feature-rich compact EVs in the Chinese market.
Inside, the car features an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen. The system runs on Leapmotor OS 4.0 Plus with a Snapdragon processor.

Depending on the trim, features such as ventilated and heated seats, a panoramic roof, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and different upholstery options are available.
The exterior has been designed with a youthful appeal. It includes a sealed front design, hidden door handles, frameless doors, and a fastback-style roofline.

The Leapmotor B05 competes with the BYD Dolphin, MG4, GWM Ora, and Geely Xingyuan.
Leapmotor says the name “Lafa” represents Lifestyle, Attitude, Freedom, and Art. The company plans to begin global exports in 2026.
A sportier Lafa 5 Ultra variant, featuring a more aggressive look, is scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2026.
