KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has partially resumed driving license-related services that had been halted since the last week of September.

According to the department, services have restarted from today in a limited manner. The operations were suspended after the department’s office was set on fire and vandalized during the Gen Z movement on September 9.

The incident had damaged several electronic devices, printing machines, and servers used for license printing and vehicle registration.

DoTM’s IT Division Director, Keshav Khatri, said that after repairing the damaged servers, the Electronic Driving License (EDL) and Vehicle Registration System (VRS) have now been brought back into partial operation.

From yesterday, license services have resumed at the Ekantakuna and Radheradhe offices in the Kathmandu Valley. Server testing is underway at Chabahil and Sano Bharyang, with services expected to resume there soon.

“Because of the Gen Z protest, all our systems were down,” Khatri told MeroAuto. “Now the servers have been fixed, and we have restarted services in a few offices. System testing is still underway, and we plan to resume services across the country gradually likely by Tuesday.”

Currently, services such as license renewal and new applications have resumed at the offices where systems are functional.
