Nepal’s leading car importers in 2025 and their market share rankings

KATHMANDU: A total of 13,087 cars were imported into Nepal between January 1 and October 15, 2025, by 60 different automobile brands.

Like last year, BYD continues to lead the market in 2025. According to the Department of Customs data, Cimex Inc., the official importer of BYD, has brought in 2,436 units so far.

Most of these imports include Dolphin, Atto 1, Atto 2, and Atto 3, while the Sealion and M6 models have also arrived in notable numbers.

In second place is Tata Motors, imported by Sipradi Trading. The company has imported 2,004 units by mid-October. A large portion of these; 876 units are Tigor EVs, which are mainly used as taxis. The rest include Tata’s passenger vehicles.

Hyundai ranks third, with 1,651 units imported during the period. The brand’s petrol models continue to perform well in the market. The company has also imported 346 units of the Creta EV. Hyundai vehicles are assembled locally in Nepal.

In fourth place is MG, represented by Paramount Motors, which has imported 1,151 units.

Maruti Suzuki stands fifth, having imported 882 petrol cars so far. The brand, distributed by CG MotoCorp, is also preparing to introduce the e-Vitara electric SUV soon.

Dongfeng comes next in sixth position. Distributed by MAW Group, it has imported 711 units in the first nine and a half months of 2025.

Omoda/Jaecoo, Changan, and Kia take the next three spots. Their imports stand at 583, 543, and 515 units respectively.

At the tenth position is Leapmotor, which has imported 356 units.

Beyond the top ten, other brands have also brought in smaller volumes of vehicles. Proton imported 252 units, Kaiyi 244, Nissan 236, GAC Aion 189, Toyota 164, Citroen 100, Xpeng 82, Skywell 80, Skoda 58, and BMW 41 units.

Additionally, several other brands have imported small numbers of vehicles. The JMEV GSE model, used mainly as a taxi, was brought in with 225 units.

Market share breakdown

Based on the import data for the first nine and a half months of 2025, BYD holds the largest market share at 18.61 percent, followed by Tata with 15.31 percent and Hyundai with 12.62 percent. MG accounts for 8.79 percent, while Maruti Suzuki and Dongfeng (Nammi) hold 6.74 percent and 5.43 percent, respectively.

Similarly, Omoda/Jaecoo has a 4.45 percent share, Changan (Deepal) holds 4.15 percent, Kia has 3.94 percent, and Leapmotor holds 2.72 percent.

Together, these top ten brands make up 82.77 percent of all vehicles imported into Nepal so far in 2025, while the remaining 17.23 percent is shared among more than three dozen other automobile brands operating in the market.
