KATHMANDU: A road repair ambulance has come into operation in Kathmandu to fix potholes immediately. This service has been introduced for the first time in Nepal.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising inaugurated the service on Thursday. The unit has been deployed by the Road Division Office, Kathmandu.

The ambulance will respond to potholes on roads of strategic importance within the district.

A mobile app has also been launched. Users can take photos of potholes, upload them, and track repair updates in real time.

At the event, Minister Ghising said the road ambulance will work as a model for Nepal. He added that the service will expand to other major cities to improve road maintenance and address complaints more quickly. He emphasized the need for modern equipment similar to those used in developed countries.

Officials from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and the Department of Roads said the new system will help resolve road maintenance issues faster.

Roads Division Chief Subodh Kumar Devkota said the ambulance will support 24/7 repair work throughout the year and ensure smoother vehicle movement.

The ambulance will reach the location with a trained technical team. It has warning lights for traffic management. Emergency repairs can also be done during rush hours.
