KATHMANDU: Omoda E5 Pro, the updated version of Omoda E5 electric SUV, has entered the Nepali market with several improvements and a lower price. Despite the price reduction, the company has not compromised on features.

Omoda, a brand under China’s Chery Group, entered Nepal in 2024. The Omoda E5 quickly gained attention in the market. The model recorded 584 units of imports in its first year in Nepal. In 2025, 385 units were imported, and the company started preparing to introduce the updated model in 2026.

The new Omoda E5 Pro was recently launched in Nepal. The vehicle was tested on a 203 km drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. The new model comes with major changes in design, interior, and features.

The front and rear design have been updated. The vehicle gets increased length and ground clearance. The seat quality has also been improved. The dashboard and screen layout look completely different compared to the previous model.

However, the battery capacity has been reduced to 49 kWh from the earlier 61 kWh battery pack.

Driving experience

The first-generation Omoda E5 was known for its strong performance, and the E5 Pro continues the same character. It comes with a 99 kW motor producing 288 Nm of peak torque.

The steering feels light and responsive. The vehicle is easy to maneuver, with a minimum turning radius of 5.4 meters. The 540-degree camera and sensors make driving easier in crowded areas.

On highways, the E5 Pro delivers strong acceleration and stable performance. Even at speeds up to 100 km/h, the vehicle feels balanced. Overtaking does not require extra effort.

During highway driving, some road noise enters the cabin, but there is no noticeable body noise. The steering response remains impressive. The vehicle continues with independent rear suspension, which helps improve ride comfort.

The E5 Pro handles rough roads and uphill sections easily. With 191 mm ground clearance, it provides confidence on damaged roads. The driver seat also comes with a massage function, which can be useful while waiting inside the vehicle. However, using the massage function while driving is not recommended.

Range above 300 km

During the Kathmandu to Pokhara drive, the vehicle completed a 203 km journey using 51 percent battery charge. Based on this test, the E5 Pro can deliver around 330 km of real-world range on Nepali roads.

The DC fast charging capability was also tested. The company claims support for a 110 kW DC fast charger, and the vehicle achieved charging speeds above 80 kW during testing.

More features, no compromise

The Omoda E5 Pro receives major updates compared to the previous version. The exterior design and cabin layout have been changed significantly. The center console and dashboard now feel more premium.

The seats are comfortable, but taller passengers may find the headroom slightly limited due to the coupe-style design. For average-height passengers, it remains comfortable.

The dual-zone climate control system allows separate temperature settings. The AC performance is effective in cooling the cabin.

The Level 2 ADAS system improves driving convenience. During the Pokhara trip, adaptive cruise control worked effectively. Lane keep assist also performed well on roads with proper lane markings.

Verdict

The Omoda E5 Pro now comes with several improvements at a price below Rs. 5 million. Features like ventilated seats and massage seats add more value. Although the battery capacity has decreased, the available charging network makes long-distance travel easier.

Maintaining its strong driving performance, the new E5 Pro is expected to compete with models like MG S5, Leapmotor B10, Deepal S05 Plus, and BYD Atto 2 in Nepal’s electric SUV segment.
