KATHMANDU: Mahanagar Yatayat Pvt Ltd, a public transport service provider, is deploying a fleet of 12 electric buses in the Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal is scheduled to formally launch the service.

Mahanagar Yatayat has brought electric buses manufactured by Chinese company Chery & Wanda Bus Guizhou Ltd. According to the company, each bus can accommodate 68 passengers—33 seated and 35 standing. The buses are equipped with modern amenities for passenger comfort, it added.

This will be the second-largest fleet of electric buses in public transport in Kathmandu Valley after Sajha Yatayat, which currently operates 40 electric buses.

The Chery Wanda buses are powered by a 240-kilowatt peak motor and equipped with a 144.92 kWh battery supplied by CATL. The buses are claimed to offer a range of up to 392 kilometers on a single charge. These buses have 385 mm ground clearance making them suitable for uneven roads.
